About the project
A shared ride, for a smarter way to reach the Burn
We’re burners like you, organizing and sharing a more conscious, affordable, and eco-friendly way to travel together to AfrikaBurn.
Instead of leaving vehicles unused for a week, we fill one bus with good people, good vibes, and a purpose: to reduce costs, minimize our footprint, and make the journey part of the experience, because it is.
All funds from the ride go directly into bringing our community art project to life at the Burn, keeping the spirit of gifting alive, from the road to the playa.
Why we offer this service to you?
The idea is simple: safe travel together, share the costs, and make it easier for more people to experience the full week at AfrikaBurn.
We started this ride for our own camp community, to make sure everyone could arrive safe & together. For us, arriving together, being part of the build and strike is an essential part of the Afrika Burn experience. It’s where the real connections happen, the camp comes alive, and the real sense of community is built. As many burners have asked if they could join our ride, we decided to open it to everyone and make this project part of our fundraiser for the Tulpa art car and theme camp.
Travel made simple, together
Frequently Asked Questions
What time does the shuttle leave Cape Town & Tankwa Town?
Please refer to the weeztix ticket link to see the opened routes.
Where is the departure point in Cape Town?
Departure is from McDonald’s Green Point – Fritz Sonnenberg Rd, Green Point, Cape Town, 8051. This is the official meeting spot for all shuttles. Please don’t go anywhere else. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before departure, by 7:00 AM sharp. Be early, get your seat, and settle in. You will be dropped off at the Tulpa camp.
Important: This shuttle ticket doesn’t let you in Afrika Burn. Please ensure your AfrikaBurn main entrance ticket is also organized before departure.
Where is the departure point from AfrikaBurn?
The return shuttle departs from the same drop-off point (most certainly from the Tulpa camp). Please don’t be late, the desert waits for no one.
Can I book a full shuttle for my camp?
Yes absolutely. In fact, this is one of the simplest and most efficient options to activate. If you are a camp lead or your camp mates want to travel together, we can reserve a private bus for your group in advance. We offer buses for 12, 24, or 36 people, depending on your needs, with your preferred departure and return dates.
Our main goal is actually to help camp lead book full buses, it’s smoother for logistics, better for group coordination, and easier for everyone.
To organize this, send us a DM. How ? Reach out directly in the public WhatsApp group and contact one of the admins in our WhatsApp group We’ll coordinate everything with you from there.
What happens if I’m late?
The bus won’t wait. If you’re late, you’ll miss it and the desert waits for no one.
Please plan ahead and be on time.
Can I book a one-way ticket?
For now, only round-trip tickets are available. If you can’t make one leg of the trip, you’re free to offer your unused seat (for example, your return) to another Burner.
It’s part of the community spirit.
How much is a ticket ?
Tickets are offered in three price tiers to help us plan and organise the journey better (from €140 to €180).
By purchasing early, you help us secure the right number of seats, vehicles and logistics creating a smoother planning and ride for everyone.
How much can I bring with me on the ride to AfrikaBurn?
We want this ride to be smooth, fun, still spacy for everyone. To make that possible, here’s the sweet spot per person: 1 big suitcase, 1 small suitcase or backpack and up to 7*5L water bottles. This should give you enough room for your essentials while keeping the bus comfortable for all humans (and their gear). Going beyond this will get tricky fast, space is shared, limited, and already well-loved. Pack smart, pack light, and pack with care for the collective. If everyone stays reasonable, we all arrive happy in the dust.
How do I buy my ticket?
You can buy your ticket directly on our website, via our ticketing partner platform (link available on the site) or in the whatsapp description group we have
Once your payment is confirmed, you’ll receive a confirmation email with all the details.
Can I cancel or change my ticket?
Tickets are non-refundable and non-changeable, but you can transfer your seat to another Burner.
Just let us know before departure so we can update the passenger list.
Can I request a bus for my camp?
Sure you can. We have 12, 24, 36 or 60 persons private bus available on pre-payment
Send the whatsapp group admin a DM and we will see if and what we can do for you.
Who drives the bus?
Our professional and experienced drivers know this route well.
They’ve done the Tankwa run many times and know how to handle the terrain safely and smoothly.
You can relax, rest, or enjoy the view, you’re in good hands.
What type of vehicle is used?
We use a comfortable, air-conditioned bus with a luggage trailer for all your gear. There’s space, but please be mindful: everyone shares the same trailer. We are not a transportation company. Avoid overpacking, else you take a big risk of not being accepted.
What’s the vibe on the ride?
Expect a Burner playlist, friendly faces, and shared anticipation. Bring your best mood, the ride is the first chapter of your Burn.
You’ll meet other Burners, share stories, and get into the right headspace for the week ahead. Bring water and snacks for the trip; we’ll stop a few times to stretch and refuel.
